Maundy Thursday consists of the Last Supper, the washing of the disciples’ feet, and it extends into the garden, where Jesus takes with him Peter, James, and John, to tarry while he goes off to pray. The story unfolds with Jesus fervently praying for God to take away the cup (his crucifixion). Three times he prayed for release, and each time his disciples fell asleep. Ultimately, Jesus came to acceptance, praying, “Nevertheless, not my will but Thine be done.”
